Research

We are a multidisciplinary team, working on Biodegradable Technologies at ECTM, TU Delft

Our goal is to establish a new class of microsystems made entirely of biodegradable materials, including sensors, actuators, and electronics, for medical and environmental applications. In the medical context, the manufacturing of biodegradable implants avoids the need for a second surgical intervention to remove the device after its period of use. Organ-on-a-chip research can also benefit from the unique properties of biodegradable technologies. In the environmental context, the “green” electronic device will naturally be composted without danger for the environment. The development of new biodegradable materials and cleanroom-compatible fabrication processes will enable the realization of biodegradable devices with the established advantages of MEMS (small size, high precision, fast response time, low energy consumption, reliable large-scale production).
